A Metal Enthusiast from the Netherlands: Glenn Veldman!

Today, we are with Dutch drummer Glenn Veldman, who has dedicated his heart to metal music and culture, playing in various bands for years.

How did your interest in music begin?

Music was always playing in the house where I grew up. As I got older, I started researching the notes of the songs I listened to, and eventually, I found myself immersed in metal music.

Why drums?

I was in search of an instrument to learn to play, and I felt drawn to the drums.

Originally, you graduated in Logistics. How did your journey towards a career in music unfold?

I dedicated my post-school time and weekends to drum practice. Later, I began playing with bands and performing on weekends.

When did you first perform on stage?

My first stage performance was in 2015 with my previous band "Backbone" at the Baroeg Open Air Festival in Rotterdam.

You've been specializing in metal music for years. What does metal music mean to you? What can you say about the metal culture in the Netherlands?

Metal music means everything to me – not just a genre, but a way of life. There's a massive crowd dedicated to metal culture in the Netherlands, but unfortunately, metal music doesn't receive much mainstream attention. I believe the lack of metal on the radio is a significant factor in this.

Which drummers have influenced your style?

Hesse Beahler from "Thy Art Is Murder," Nicko McBrain from "Iron Maiden," Jürgen Reil from "Kreator."

What can you tell us about the general perspective on music in the Netherlands?

Unfortunately, from my perspective, metal music doesn't receive much positive feedback. People often think metal is all about screaming, but that's not true. If metal music had more exposure on radios, people might have a deeper understanding of it. Unfortunately, popular music tends to take precedence in many ways.

Do you have any other artistic interests besides music?

No, I don't.

Which bands and musicians are you currently working with?

Currently, I'm working with two different bands. One is a Death/Thrash metal group called "Infantry" based in Zaandam. The other is a Thrash metal group named "Headless Hunter" based in Eindhoven.

What is your most utopian dream professionally? What are your future goals?

My dream is to play the drums at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany and the Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium. Additionally, I aspire to make a living solely through drumming one day. Currently, I still need to work to cover expenses. Improving as a drummer, going on tours, and creating better music are among my future goals.

Renklerin İzinde - The exhibition on mythology is waiting for visitors at CKM until January 31st!

Today, I attended the opening of the "In the Trail of Colors" (Renklerin İzinde) Culture and Art Community's exhibition on the theme of "Mythology," which is the final stop of their trilogy at Istanbul's Caddebostan Cultural Center. This collective group, consisting of people from various professions interested in painting, regularly comes together to create artwork based on a common theme. This time, they shaped their works within the framework of the mythology theme for the third part of the trilogy. The first two legs of the exhibition took place in Bursa and Ayvalık. Despite being a collective project, it pleased me as a colorful person to see almost everyone from diverse professional backgrounds choosing vibrant colors consistently. For those who love mythology and lively colors, I can say it's an exhibition that will leave you with positive feelings as a viewer. :) The exhibition can be visited at Caddebostan Cultural Center, 4th floor, Foyer ar...
